Institute of Ophtalmology was inaugurated in the month of February of 1976 with
the purpose of lending doctor-surgical attendance to patients of limited
resources with ocular sufferings. From their inauguration and to the month of
December of 2000 1.891.064 patients with ocular sufferings in the external
consultation have been taken care of and, 105,504 surgical procedures have taken
place.
