   " WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY "

05 - JUNIO - 2009

The World Environment Day (WED) was established by the General Assembly of the Organization of the United Nations (UN) in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.

It is commemorated each year on 5 June and is one of the principal vehicles through which the UN stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action. The agenda for this day focuses on:

Give a human face to environmental problems.

Encourage people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development.

Promote the understanding that individuals and their communities are crucial to changing attitudes towards environmental issues.

Promote partnership that will ensure all nations and their peoples enjoy a more secure and more  prosperous.
