After the defeat at “Calderón Bridge” and exit of the leaders of Guadalajara Hidalgo and Allende headed north, insurgents in central Mexico saw the need to reorganize the movement and regroup. With the effort of Ignacio Rayon, the defeated rebels were able to regroup and go to Zacatecas, and then find the U.S. border. In Saltillo was decided that Ignacio Lopez Rayon was head of the insurgent forces, composed of three thousand men and twenty cannons.
