The first ascent of a balloon in Mexico held in Veracruz on February 6, 1785, and its builder and launcher was Antonio Maria Fernandez, a resident and businessman in town The balloon was made of paper and filled with hot air and smoke from burning straw, falling to a league from the city of Veracruz.
