

"25 YEARS OF MEXICAN FIRST IN SPACE, RODOLFO NERI VELA"

On November 26, 1985 took off from Kennedy Space Center
of NASA in the United States the orbital Atlantis with the crew 61-B. The
objective of this mission to put into orbit three communications satellites
one of them, Mexico's Morelos II, to perform experiments in microgravity,
photographing different regions of the earth and carry out two spacewalks to
perform the first drill of building structure Earth orbit, with a view to
future integration of the International Space Station. Were crew composed of
six Americans: Major Shaw, the pilot O'Connor, Ross, Spring, Mary Cleave,
and Walter, and the first Mexican in space Dr. Rodolfo Neri Vela, this was
the first time in history space travel when there was a representative of a
Latin American country on a mission of NASA.
