Mil Mascaras is regarded as a true legend in Mexico with the United States, South America and Japan. In his youth he practiced various sports, like bullfighting, to baseball, bodybuilding and amateur fighting.

In 1955 a fight Dorrell Philip Ham and Dixon, great fighters of the time, led him to decide to pursue wrestling.

Long years of training and amateur activity made him a famous athlete. In 1964 he was elected to represent in the Olympic Games in Tokyo, unfortunately, because of financial problems of his delegation could not go to Japan.
